The Illinois Geographical Society publishes a peer-reviewed journal,  Illinois Geographer,  twice yearly in the spring and fall. Editorial offices are located in the Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment at Illinois State University. Journal articles and book reviews do not necessarily represent the official views of the IGS.

The editor invites authors of papers on any geographic topic to submit their manuscripts for consideration. All manuscripts should be submitted electronically (Microsoft Word is preferred) and may be emailed to the Editor, Jill Thomas, at jfthoma@ilstu.edu. All photos, maps and graphics should be suitable for reproduction and printing on a 5.5 x 8.5 inch page. Illustrations can be submitted as hard copies or digitally in jpeg or tiff formats. Authors should also include an abstract of 50-100 words.

Editor’s Note to Author

All articles must comply with the Illinois Geographer “Style Sheet.” Find a copy of the “Style Sheet” by clicking here.

In general, the “Style Sheet” calls for in-text citations, a list of references in a standardized format, and a minimum number of (if any) endnotes. Contact the Editor with any questions, prior to submission of a manuscript.

Authors should allow at least two months for evaluation of their submission by the editor and at least two anonymous referees before a decision is made about its suitability for publication in Illinois Geographer. Please do not submit articles that have appeared or have received acceptance for publications in other journals.
